Re-inventing the library of contract and vendors

Buy.GSA.Gov, already had a Contracts and Vendors website. The task here was to take the current design and reinvent it, bringing a sleek, modern look and feel to the newly branded website. One objective was to find ways to increase the usability, and the navigation, to provide a quick, smooth, and non-frustrating experience.

Understanding the project

So the objective here was to take the existing Contracts and Vendors website, and enhance the look, feel, identity, and usability. I was tasked with working on the interaction design also. One idea I brought forth, was the creation of an Advanced Search; a new search to allow users to get to where they needed right from the start. I also wanted to tackle some of the pain points. A pain point in the past was that some of the vocabulary and terms were not clear for newer users; so I added FAQ tiles below the search. During the search, some results would be omitted and users were not sure why, so I added Exceptions on the results page to allow users to see what was omitted and the reasoning. I added some sections to the Vendor Details (that were omitted before) that users were interested in. Eventually there was a request for a “Compare Contract vehicles” option for the Search function. That new option can be seen in the last section of this page.
