Northrop Grumman’s Looie Project Inventory Tool

Allowing Aerospace Engineers a moment to think simple

Aerospace Engineers, have to constantly ponder deeply. Sometimes in very complex ways to get results. The task was to create an inventory system for the hardware tools and parts for these engineers. My objective here was to find a way to simplify the process of finding tools that come with very complex inventory numbers, and categories.

Understanding the project

So the objective here was to take inventory items that have very complex structures of numbers and categories to describe them, and place them into a system that makes these items easy to find, sift, and sort through. Some users would come to the system with a dozen identifying numbers to allow them to find what they were looking for easily, so I wanted to make an advanced search that allowed them the freedom to do so without frustration. However, I also wanted to see if I could provide everything they needed with the simple search without them needing to toggle the advanced search at all. I lead the UX research on this project, so I was responsible for gathering users for Usability and Card Sorting tests, creating Lofi interactive mock-ups for the tests, and then executing those tests with users, and gathering insights. I was also responsible for creating User Personas, User Journeys, and eventually creating the Hi-fi Interactive mock-up. Consecutively, I was responsible for the front end development for this website while working with back-end developers.
